Textbook board employees protest against minister

2025-02-03
HYDERABAD: Employees of the Sindh Textbook Board (STB) staged a demonstration outside the local press club on Sunday in protest against the Sindh education minister’s outsourcing plan for the board.

The protest was led by Mohammad Ali Shah, Faheem, Maqsood and others.

They said the outsourcing plan was in fact an anti-education step. They added that the STB was founded in 1970 by late Z. A. Bhutto to improve the standard of education for children in Sindh.

They said Benazir Bhutto had carried the vision of her father forward and ensured availability of free textbooks for the children. Now, they said, the STB was being privatised by the education department through different measures. They said it was being done only to have publishers and contractors of someone’s choice in order to benefit them.

They demanded that the STB should be protected. —Staff Correspondent
