Sharmeen a hero

2016-03-03
PAKISTAN should be proud of Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy as she has once again proved that Pakistanis are talented and immensely capable of winning an Oscar not once but twice. However, a section of the population is criticising her instead of praising her.

People are claiming that she keeps showing the world an incredibly negative picture of Pakistan, demanding her to show a more positive side. What they fail to understand is that Obaid has portrayed a reality, that we try so hard to deny or ignore.

Ignorant people keep posting negative comments about her on the social media, trying their best to belittle her achievements.

I hope all this negativity doesn`t affect her and she keeps moving forward, because she is what this nation needs right now, a voice that isn`t afraid of addressing the issues our people casually overlook.

Fasiha Irfan Karachi (2) I was amazed to read film director Syed Noor`s remark on Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy`s Oscar winning documentary, A girl in theriver (March 1). He accuses Chinoy of plagiarism, of stealing his ideas.

A fellow compatriot had brought some heart-warming news among a famine of good news for the country and here you are throwing mud on her achievement. I want to ask Mr Noor if he has secured the copyright for honour killing and now everybody has to ask for his permission to use the idea. Unlike Mr Noor`s fictional story, this was a documentary based on a true event and Mr Noor knows the difference better than anybody else.
