UPPER DIR: The police on Thursday seized dozens of non-custom paid vehicles imported as scrap in Upper Dir district during a crackdown.
DSP (headquarters) Zaf ar Khan told reporters here that the action was initiated on the directives of district police officer Athar Waheed. He said the seized vehicles had no registration record and therefore, they were illegal. The DSP said such vehicles could be used in terrorist and criminal activities.
He said 20 vehicles were seized in Dir, 16 in Wari, six in Brawal, four in Shahikot and that the crackdown on such automobiles would continue.
Meanwhile, owners of NCP vehicles imported as scrap demanded the immediate halt to the crackdown saying they`re poor people and are using such vehicles for domestic use only.
MEDICAL OFFICERS APPOINTED: The health department has filled all vacancies of medical of ficers in various hospitals of Upper Dir district.
District health of ficer Dr Abid Hussain told reporters here on Wednesday that a total of 75 medical of ficers had been appointed to Upper Dir hospitals filling vacancies.
He said the department had hired doctors to ensure the best possible care to patients at government hospitals in the district.
The DHO claimed there was no shortage of doctors in basic health units and rural health centres.-Correspondent
