Notice issued to IO in fraud case against toddler, relatives

KARACHI: Alocalcourt onThursday issued a show-cause notice to the investigating officer for failing to submit the final challan in a case registered against a man and his nine relatives, including a two-year-old boy for allegedly committing fraud in the funds for the Benazir Income Support Programme.

JudicialMagistrate (West)Ghazanfar Abbas also told the IO to furnish a written explanation as to why he should not be proceeded against for failing to submit the final challan despite being given more time by the court.

Last month, the Docks police had booked two-year-old Ramzan Shah along with his father and nine other relatives in the alleged fraud case.

Advocate Sardar Liaquat Ali Gabol for the toddler`s father had told the court that IO Mukhtiar Tanoli had shown the child as `absconder` in the case which showed grave negligence on his part.He stated that the IO was allegedly demanding Rs500,000 as bribe to clear the names of the boy and his family members.

During the previous hearing, the counsel had produced the child in the court and sought his bail to avoid his arrest.

Police said complainant Shazim Akhtar, said to be a director of the BISP in Clifton, had lodged an FIR alleging that many people were caught redhanded while illegally drawing money from an ATM near the Dr Ziauddin Hospital BISP by using the cards issued to the beneficiaries under the BISP by using fake thumb impressions.

On his complaint, a case was registered against 10 people, including the boy, Ramzan Shah, under Sections 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly Inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using a genuine a forged document) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Docks police station.
