LAHORE: Police and CTD are working on a claim by Hafiz Gul Bahadur (HGB) group of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) which has claimed the responsibility for the killing a police constable on Raiwind Road.
Head Constable Qurban Ali was allegedly targeted by armed motorcyclists when he was going back to his home in the Chuhng area on Saturday night.
Lahore Operations DIG Faisal Kamran told Dawn police didn`t yet believe that the group was behind the incident. He said Qurban Ali was posted at the public relations department of the DIG`s office in Lahore.
`We are tracking down CCTV as well as private cameras installed around the crime scene,` the DIG said.
To a question, Mr Kamran said the police teams were also working on other factors that could be the cause of the killing, including the policeman`s personal or family rifts.
Waseem Sial, Additional IG of Counter Terrorism Department (Punjab), said his department and other security agencies were working on the murder of the constable.
He said apparently it seems the Hafiz Gul Bahadar group, the offshoot of the TTP, was not behind this killing.
`To our information, HGB was operating in Waziristan and it has no network here in Punjab`, Mr Sial said.
He said the modus operandi used in the killing also didn`t match the HGB style of working.
To a question, he said the constable was also working with a private online bike service provider. He said Qurban Ali had just dropped a customer on his bike when he was allegedly shot dead. Asif Chaudhry
