`16 dead, around 1,300 hurt in February road accidents in Pindi`

RAWALPINDI: As many as 16 people were killed, 569 seriously injured and 730 were slightly injured in 1,204 road traffic accidents in Rawalpindi last month According to Rescue 1122, as many as 1,204 road traffic accidents were reported to Rescue 1122 in Rawalpindi district during February.

A total of 1,315 people were victims of these accidents and the Emergency Rescue Service Rawalpindi provided timely rescue services to all victims, a spokesperson for the Rescue 1122 said.

In these traffic accidents, 16 people were killed, 569 were seriously injured, and 730 were slightly injured. The majority of these road traffic accidents involved car and motorcycle riders.

Out of the 1,204 traffic accident victims, 1,124 were men and 191 women.

Causes of accidents included speeding, careless driving, wrong turns and tyre blowouts. Most of the victims of these accidents were between the ages of 11 and 40, the emergency services said.

Rescue team reached all accidents on time, maintaining the average response time. The Rescue Service Rawalpindi is also working to reduce road traffic accidents; however, they urged the need to strictly enforce traffic laws to reduce accidents on the road.

Meanwhile, a man who was alone at his house was found shot dead at his residence in the New Town area on Sunday.

Initial police report suggested that the victim committed suicide by shooting himself in his head, which claimed his life.

The incident came to light when the family of the victim reached home.

The deceased was identified as Malik Nadeem. Later, the police reached the crime scene and shifted the body to the hospital for postmortem. The motive behind the incident was yet to be investigated by police. Staff Reporter
