Man booked under Peca for criticising Bannu clerics on social media

LAKKI MARWAT: The police registered a case against a citizen under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) on Sunday for uploading an inappropriate video on social media against the clerics in Bannu.

A police official said that Abrar,a resident of Mamashkhel area, had uploaded a video on social media wherein he allegedly used unbecoming language against ulema for not announcing moon sighting for Ramazan.

He said that Maulana Abdul Ghaffar Quraishi, head of prayer leaders, brought the matter into the notice of the Saddar police whereupon a legal action was initiated.Maulana Quraishi, who is the complainant in the FIR, told the police that Abrar had condemned the clerics for not announcing the fasting month. `He could be heard as saying that the moon is of two days and the ulema of Bannu and Pakistan have deprived us (faithful) of the first fast,` he claimed.

The police said that further investigation was underway.
