Jirga settles Nareja-Solangi blood dispute

SUKKUR: A jirga (tribal court) presided over by former MNA Ghous Bakhsh Khan Mahar in the Wazirabad area of Shikarpur district, settled a long-running blood dispute between the local Nareja and Solangi communities on Sunday.

A dispute between the two side had escalated into violent attacks against each other in the Piryaloi area of Khairpur district long ago.

After hearing the two sides and consulting his advisers -- Fida Hussain Jamro and Ghulam Shabbir representing the Narejos, and Sardar Aijaz Khan Bughio and Sardar Maqsood Ahmed Khushk representing the Solangis – Ghous Bakhsh Mahar pronounced his ruling.

Sardar Muazzam Khan Abbasi and Sardar Ashraf Khan Solangi accompanied him while he read out the ruling.

He declared the Nareja side guilty of killing five members of the Solangi community and wounding four others. He also declared the Solangi side guilty of killing four Nareja community members during the hostility.

The jirga imposed a fine of Rs14.4 million on the Narejos and Rs10 million on Solangis.
