SAVE THE PEOPLE: The streets of Dokri are in a pathetic state and their condition is getting worse by the day as the local government agencies seem to have taken no notice of the deteriorating situation. Besides, victims of last year`s floods are continuing to live by the roads.

Their misery is unfortunate, but they are also cause of concern for the locals. The victims, living in unhygienic conditions, are bearers of many an infectious disease, and the locals are now suffering from the same diseases. The government should take immediate action on both counts.

Name withheld on request Dokri NOT GOOD: This refers to the report Ex-military ruler Musharraf passes away in Dubai` (Feb 6). I found the headline insensitive and disrespectful to the high offices the former army chief had held. Also, it disrespected the dignity of the body of a dead person. We should all ensure civility in our language irrespective of our political leanings.

Moin Mohajir Karachi SILLY ACTION: Recently, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) banned Wikipedia in Pakistan.

Later, the prime minister intervened and lifted the ban probably after feeling rather embarrassed. The PTA should do better than this. It should stop and ban online scams instead of banning Wikipedia, YouTube or other social media platforms. The governments in Pakistan look for short-term solutions to their perceived problems. The regulating bodies have become part of the problem by taking such meaningless actions.

Tougeer W. Chishty Lahore NO LIBRARIES: Recently, I went back to my hometown Kashmore during the semester break, planning to continue my routine studies in a library there. But the plan could not be executed as I found no public library baclc home. A city of one million people does not have a single public library. Why? The government should do what it should have done already.
