BAHAWALPUR: The district administration recovered 100 free flour bags from the possession of a man in a raid in Hasilpur on Sunday.
According to Deputy Commissioner ZaheerAnwar Jappa, during his visit to Hasilpur, a tip-off was received about the flour bags allegedly hoarded by one Muhammad Ali in his locked house near the railway crossing of Shariq City Colony. Naib Tehsildar Malik Irshad was assigned the task toconduct a raid on the location along with police.
During the raid, police recovered 86 free flour bags from the locked house.
The Hasilpur City Police Station, on the complaint of Revenue Officer Malik Irshad Ahmed, registered a case under thePrice Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act 1977 against Muhammad Ali.
The police shifted all the recoverednourbagstothe City Police Station for distribution among the deserving persons.
Police officials told Dawn that Ali was absconding and teams were investigating the matter to trace his accomplices.
Meanwhile, former parliamentarian Syed Tabish Awari suggested to the government to launch a subsidised flour scheme for the deserving people instead of the free flour scheme, which had claimed many lives of people in various cities due to frequent stampedes at the flour distribution centres.
T R ANSPER SONS: Lodhran District Police Officer Hissam bin Iqbal, in coordination of a nongovernment organisation, has launched a pilot project for the protection of transpersons in the city.
According to PRO Imran Umar, the DPO said the centre would provide protection to the transgender persons who would also get legal assistance and social security. The police officials would always be available for the help of the transpersons.
