Four friends drown as car falls into canal

HYDERABAD: Four friends belonging to Karachi died in a road accident when their car fell into a canal on Monday night in Tando Allahyar district, police said.

The victims were identified as Abdul Ahad Sheikh, 21, sonof Mohammad Aslam Sheikh; Sameer, 21, son of Rizwanuddin Siddiqui; Ali Shan, 23, son of Mohammad Iqbal, and Adeel, 20, son of Mohammad Azam Farooqui.

Travelling in a car number BEY-171, they were coming from Karachi. The car fell into Naseer Canal of Rohri Canal System probably apparently dueto speeding, according to Mirpurkhas SSP Saleem Shah.

The bodies were shifted to Karachi the previous night after they were fished out, he added.

Tando Allahyar police spokesman Ameen Gul Odh said Abdul Ahad was the resident of Mirpurkhas and had shifted to Karachi. Ahad was coming to meet his cousin Asfand Leghariin Mirpurkhas with his friends in a rented car.

He said Shan was a resident of Sialkot, Punjab, but was residing in Karachi probably for a job or business. They were residents of neighbourhood in Karachi.

L ocals told police that Sameer and Adeel were also residents of Mirpurkhas Satellite Town, but had shifted to Karachi.After the car fell into the canal and local divers jumped into water to recover the bodies, the search was covered live on social media platforms by some locals.

According to the SSP, the road where accident occurred was dual carriage way between Mirpurkhas and Tando Allahyar but over the canal, it was single.
