Ex-policeman, accomplices booked for robbing trader

RAWALPINDI: A former official of Rawalpindi police and his four accomplices were booked on charges of illegally detaining a businessman and depriving him of his money and other valuables.
A police spokesman said an investigation has been initiated against the former sub-inspector who had been dismissed from service three months ago for remaining absent from duty for six months.
Sajjad Ahmad, a businessman, lodged an FIR with Rawat police, saying that he had come to Pakistan from the UAE for business purposes and was heading to his residence in Bahria Town from Lahore.
He said when he turned towards Lake View Junction in Bahria Town, former sub-inspector Rehan Khan and three other people dressed in plain clothes signaled him to stop.
When he stopped his car, they asked him to show the vehicle`s documents which he produced. They then asked him about the weapon in his possession following which he showed them the arms licence.
After checking, they forced him to sit in the back seat of the car while his accomplices sat with him and started slapping him, the complainant said, adding that they took him to a double-storey house at an undisclosed location where they continued to beat him up.
He said finally Rehan Khan intervened and asked him to make a deal for the sake of his life.
He said Rehan Khan then transferred Rs50,000 from his bank account to his personal account and also snatched Rs70,000 from him.
The former police official also took 4,500 dirhams from him in addition to gift boxes worth Rs300,000 from the car, an original registration book, two perfumes, a 30-bore pistol and a licence. After snatching all the items, they left him.
A case was registered with the police after the incident was brought to the notice of the city police officer and an investigation was launched.
