Millions of rupees, valuables stolen in garrison city during holidays

RAWALPINDI: More than 140 cases of street crime were reported in which people were deprived of 42motorcycles, four cars, 66 mobile phones, gold jewellery and millions of rupees in cash during two days of Eidul Fitr amid deployment of thousands of police personnel to ensure foolproof security.

On the nrst day ofEid,74 cases of street crime were reported in which 22 motorcycles, one car and 33 mobile phones were taken away by culprits from different parts of the city.

On the second day of Eid, in more than 66 cases, 20 motorcycles and 33 mobile phones, gold jewellery worth over Rs4 million were snatched by robbers in different parts of the district.Ahmad Awais and his friend were deprived of four mobile phones by two unidentified robbers in New Katarian on Tuesday, Mohammad Ramzan`s I-phone was snatched away by two unidentified motorcycle riders in Commercial Market Satellite Town, Hafeezur Rehman and his friend were robbed of their mobile phones by two unidentified motorcycle riders in Shamasabad.

Ahmad Zubair, a resident of Naseerabad area and his family had gone to Murree after locking his house. On their return, they found gold jewellery worth Rs3.6 million and Rs60,000 were stolen by burglars.

Naseer Ahmad, a resident of Kahuta lodged a similar complaint with the police saying that he went to his native town on Chaand Raat after locking his house.On Eid day, he received a phone call of his brother-in-law who told him that the locks of his house were broken. On receiving the emergency call he rushed to his house and found Rs40,000 and prize bonds worth Rs200,000 were stolen from his house.

Bilal Aftab, also lodged a similar FIR with the Kahuta police that his motorcycle parked inside the house, Rs60,000 and gold jewellery worth Rs400,000 were stolen in the absence of his family on Tuesday.

Iyaz Ahmad, a motorcycle rider was shot and injured by three unidentified robbers in the city police area during robbery attempt, Zeeshan Rasheed, lodged an FIR with the Waris Khan police saying that he was doing recording of a song in Sujan Singh Haveli when two motorcycle riders appeared on the scene andsnatched away a video recording camera, gold rings worth Rs40,000, two mobile phones after threatening him.

Anjum Shahzad complained to the Cantt police that some unidentified burglars broke into his office and stole Rs1.5 million lying in the safe.

In kallar Syedan some burglars broke into a house and stole gold jewellery worth Rs1 million and Rs40,000. A shopkeeper was deprived of Rs130,000 by thieves in Kallar Syedan.

A woman pedestrian was robbed of her purse containing three mobile phones and Rs43,000 by two unidentified motorcycle riders in Sadigabad on Eid day.

Police said on Wednesday that more than 5,000 police personnel had been deployed in the district to ensure foolproof security and peace on Eidul Fitr and Chaand Raat.
