ISLAMABAD: Though the heirs of slain prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali are still waiting for justice as the trial of his alleged killers is yet to conclude, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has nominated him for Sitara-i-Shujaat award.

FIA prosecutor Ali was murdered on May 3, 2013, near his house in Sector G-9 when he was on way to an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi which was about to indict former president Pervez Musharraf in the Benazir Bhutto murder case.

The ATC in December last year indicted Abdullah Umar, Hammad Adil and Adnan Adil for murdering Ali who was also dealing withthe Mumbai attacks and Haj corruption cases.

The FIA in a letter submitted to the interior ministry while recommending the slain prosecutor for the award stated that he also dealt with high-profile cases like the attempted suicide attack on the army house and the district courts Rawalpindi.

`He received various threats and warnings` but these could not deter him from discharging his public service and commitment to prosecute terrorists.

It added: `The President of Pakistan may graciously award the slain prosecutor Sitara-i-Shujaat.` The FIA also sought a compensation of Rs5 million for the widow and two sons of the slain prosecutor.
