SIALKOT: Mayor Chaudhry Tauheed Alchtar has announced naming the city`s congested Kutchery Chowk and Kutchery Road after the Prof Asghar Saudai in recognition of his services in the Pakistan Movement and education sector.
Talking to newsmen on Tuesday, he said it would be a privilege for the Sialkot Municipal Corporation to name the historical road and roundabout after Prof Saudai (late) who wrote the line Pakistan Ka Matlab Kiya, La Ilaha Illalah.
The municipal corporation has made the announcement for the ninth death anniversary of Saudai which would be on May 17. He had died in 2008 at the age of 81 after a protractedillness.
He was born on Sept 17,1926 in Sialkot`s Beriwala Chowk locality. He had been a prominent activist of the PakistanMovement.
The famous line, Pakistan ka matlab kya, which later became a source of recognition for him, was a part of a poem he had written during his college days.
Saudai also served as the director education and economist and the government had awarded him`Pride of Performance Award` after seven years of his death.
Govt College Women University Sialkot Vice Chancellor Dr Farhat Saleemi, Govt Murray College Principal Prof Javaid Akhtar Billa and Govt Jinnah Islamia College Principal Sabir Nazir Butt have paid Saudi tributes and lauded the government move to recognise his services. Correspondent
