Man suffers burns in cylinder blast

BAHAWALPUR: A man received serious burns while his decanting shop and its adjacent constructions were badly damaged due to a gas cylinder blast fire at Basti Kanjoo in the suburbs of Khairpur Tamewali, about 45km from here, on Sunday night.

According to Rescue 1122, when Muhammad Amir opened the door of his shop, there was an explosion apparently due to gas leakage from a cylinder. A fire broke out inside the shop as a result of which Amir suffered serious burns while his shopand the adjacent buildings were badly damaged.

On receipt of an emergency call, the rescue officials rushed to the scene and shifted the injured man to the Khairpur Tamewali THQ Hospital from where he was shif ted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BV H).

BVH doctors told Dawn that Amir had suffered burns on 90 per cent of his body.

According to Rescue 1122, a mysterious fire broke out in a locked house in Bindra Pulli area of the city on Monday.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained but rescuers suspectedthat some live cigarette in the nearby heap of trash may have engulfed the house in fire.

The family was away at the time of fire.

SECURITY: District Police Officer (DPO) Abadiat Nisar has announced a comprehensive security plan in connection with the Eidul Fitr across the district.

According to the DPO, as many 1,500 police personnel and others of the law-enforcing agencies would be deployed for security at over 414 Eid offering places, including eidgahs, mosques, open grounds and playgrounds.
