Residents protest rising enme in Shahzad Town

ISLAMABAD:Theresidents of Shahzad Town on Monday assembled at Expressway to protest against a murder in their area and increased criminal activities there.

Earlier, Sajid Kinai, 22, was gunned down by at Lather Road when he came to a local market to purchase yogurt.

The police quoted an eye witness as saying that some persons intercepted the victim and later started firing at him.

As a result he fell and started bleeding, and the gunmen managed to escape, the police said, adding that later the injured was shifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.The police said the victim had no enmity with anyone, besides, nothing was snatched from them. The circumstantial evidences suggested that neither it was a robbery incident, the police added.

However, the motive behind the murder was yet to be established, they added.

Later the residents of the area assembled at Expressway and staged a protest.

They blocked the roads and chanted slogans against increase in criminal activities there, including murder and robberies. The residents also chanted slogans against the new settlers who came from different parts of the country, especially KPK and started living there.

The protestors made them responsible behind the increase in crimes there and demanding their removal from there. After getting the information the police and local administration reached the spot and conducted negotiation with them.

Later the protesters dispersed after they were assured that action would be taken against the culprits and new settlers. A meeting between senior police officers and elders of the area, which decided to gather information against the new settlers in collaboration with police and locals, which help to locate those involved in criminal activities.-Staff Reporter
