KARACHI: The Sindh United Party has announced that it will launch a mass mobilisation and awareness campaign against corruption and bad governance by the government which `has pushed the country in general and Sindh in particular into a crisis of law and order, civic and other issues`.
This was stated by SUP president Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah at a press conference after presiding over a meeting of the party`s central executive committee here at Haider Manzil on Tuesday.
Mr Shah said that the SUP after having a detailed discussion on the political situation in the country, especially the government`s performance in Sindh, was of the view that the PML-N and PPP governments, owing to their corruption and inability, had failed to resolve the issues and end the hardship faced by the public.
`Lawlessness has crossed all limits due to the incapability of corrupt rulers, giving the military an excuse tointerfere and take up the responsibility of maintaining law and order, which is purely a provincial subject,` he said, adding that it was evident from the presence of the military and paramilitary forces in most parts of the country.
As regards the failure of the government to carry out development projects in Sindh, the SUP chief said: `Hardly 37 per cent of the total development outlay could be utilised during 201415. The people of Sindh are devoid of all basic facilities such as healthcare, education, potable water, sanitation and pollution-free atmosphere. Around 60 per cent development funds lapse dueto corruption and incapability of the government,` he said.
`All the cities and towns are faced with a grave water supply crisis. Power supply to water supply schemes is disconnected due to non-payment of electricity bills and at most places people are compelled to consume contaminated water,` he said and added that the issue could be resolved by direct payment of electricity bills by the Sindh government.
Mr Shah further said that the country`s 68-year history was witness to the fact that the Muslim League, the PPP and the army had ruled the country throughout theperiod, and they were responsible for the current situation in the country.
`Certain forces had been attempting to unite different factions of the PML, but in fact the PML failed to play any alternative political role.
The forces that matter in running the country should now give up this `old thinking` and repeating the same experiment,` he said.
`Sindh is a political, geographical and economic hub of the country and those struggling for the national rights of the historic nations could only prove an alternative political force in the province.
Mr Shah said it was the SUP which `being an alternative political force` could steer the country out of extremism, corruption and other crises and save the federation. He said his party demanded just share for Sindh in a true federation and negated centralism.
`Sindh direly needs good governance that could resolve public issues`, he said and highlighted the need to bring about electoral reforms in true sense to curb rigging and ambushing democracy.
