Janjua highlights Pakistan efforts for regional security

ISLAMABAD: National Security Adviser retired Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua on Friday held separate meetings with the ambassadors of Iran and Japan as well as the British high commissioner to discuss matters pertaining to regional security, border management and bilateral ties.
During his meeting with Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost, Mr Janjua discussed issues of border security with a resolve to boost mutual cooperation. He said Pakistan attached great importance to its ties with Iran and was committed to overcoming all irritants for its improvement.
Mr Honardoost pointed out how the lack of interaction between bankingsectors of the two countries was causing an obstacle in enhancing bilateral trade.
Mr Janjua assured the ambassador that authorities concerned would be sensitised to take measures to facilitate trade with Iran through better banking interactions.
The two sides agreed to improve border management through better coordination and cooperation in regional security and other areas.
In his meeting with Japanese ambassador Takashi Kurai, the adviser apprised him of Pakistan`s efforts to build cooperative relations with its neighbours on basis of mutual respect and coexistence.
He said Pakistan had always sup-ported endeavours for peace with India and Afghanistan. Pakistan, he added, regarded Japan as a close friend and a reliable economic partner.
The two sides expressed support for constructive efforts for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
During his meeting with British High Commissioner Thomas Drew, the security adviser reviewed the prevailing security situation in Afghanistan and the status of Pakistan-India ties.
Talking to the high commissioner, the adviser said that Pakistan wanted peace and stability in Afghanistan and was ready to support all efforts required to settle the problem.
Both sides condemned the recent bomb attack in Kabul.-APP
