KARACHI: THE June 1 revolution in Urdu journalism, when linotype-set and rotaryprinted Dawn (Urdu) made its debut, was celebrated at a tea party at the Central Hotel in Karachi on Thursday [June 1]. Baba-i-Urdu, Dr Abdul Haq, blessing the venture, declared that the progress of Urdu was linked up with the popularity of Naskh type the type which Dawn Urdu had adopted. He said he always advocated adoption of Naskh and he was happy that his cherished dream his life`s great ambition was realised when Dawn Urdu came out in Naskh. He said he had dedicated his life to `this mission` which was crowned with success on June 1.
The tea party was given by the Managing Director and the Directors of Pakistan Herald Limited. The Managing Director, Mr Mahmood Haroon, welcoming the guests, observed that Dawn was the first daily newspaper in Pakistan to be produced with the modern me chanical equipment.
Dawn Urdu was striving to do away with the obstacles in the way of the progress of Urdu language and he hoped that soon Urdu would take the pride of having a respectable place among other progressive languages of the world. Dawn staff correspondent
