KEMU syndicate members nominated

LAHORE: The Punjab governor, being chancellor of the public sector universities, has nominated former vice chancellor of the King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Prof Asad Aslam Khan and retired senior gynecologist Prof Tabinda Rana as syndicate members of the varsity for a term of three years, respectively.

The composition of the nearly 50-member KEMU syndicate was completed with the nominations of these two senior retiredprofessors.

The positions had been lying vacant for the last three months or so as the cases of these two senior medical professionals were pending for final approval with the governor.

An official said the health department moved the summaries to the Punjab governor for approval of the nominations in the category of the two retired professors for their experience and academic achievements.

While recommending the case of Prof Asad Aslam, the department stated he had39-year experience and currently working as Professor Emeritus of College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences (COAVS), visiting professor of Ophthalmology, KEMU, Punjab coordinator for Prevention of Blindness Programme and member of Strategic and Technical Advisory Group (STAG) of WHO for SPECS 20230.

It further stated that Prof Asad had also served as KEMU vice chancellor, Mayo Hospital Lahore CEO, College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences (COAVS) princi-pal, as dean of surgery & allied health sciences and chairman/ professor of ophthalmology at the KEMU, besides being coordinator for the Eye Health Pakistan.

Similarly, Prof. Tabinda Rana was recommended for her 38 years of outstanding service and experience in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, as well as her contributions to KEMU and improvements in academic affairs.

Prof Tabinda had also served as the medical superintendent of the Lady Willingdon Hospital, Lahore.
