Terrorism charges removed from two FIRs against lawyers

BAHAWALPUR: A Burewala court on Monday ordered removal of terrorism charges from two FIRs registered against 19 lawyers, including tehsil bar association president and secretary, and their over 200 accomplices for demolishing a government residence on Sunday.
However, other charges against the suspects in the FIRs, registered by Model Town police, Burewala, will stand intact, the court ordered.
As per the FIRs, which includedsection 7 of the ATA, as many as 19 lawyers and their 200 accomplices allegedly attacked and demolished a government residence in the Old Judicial Colony in Burewala to grab the land for construction of their chambers. Three policemen were injured in an operation conducted by police and administration to retrieve the state land from the suspects.
Burewala police had arrested 11 lawyers, including the tehsil bar president and secretary.Dawn has learnt that the removal of the ATA section from the FIRs is an outcome of a meeting between some senior lawyers with the Multan commissioner and additional IG, south Punjab, on Sunday.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the High Court Bar Association, Multan, President Muhammad Azhar Khan and secretary general Safdar Sarsana Sial said the issue was resolved amicably. Correspondent
