KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were shot dead in an `encounter` near the wholesale vegetable and fruit market, off the Superhighway, in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

According to the Site Superhighway Industrial police, the two suspects were looting one Atta Mohammed near Baba Qasim Mazar in Qasimabad Society when a police patrol reached there.

On seeing the police, the suspects opened fire that was returned. In the ensuing shootout, both suspects were gunned down, the police said.

They claimed to have seized two TT pistols, a motorbike and a mobile phone that they had snatched from the citizen.

Malir SSP Rao Anwar Ahmed claimed that the deceased belonged to Afghan nationals.
