LAHORE: The Pakistan People`s Party has opposed the Finance Division`s proposal of doing away with the annual increment of government employees.

Punjab PPP information secretary Shehzad Saeed Cheema said ina statement here on Sunday that the Reforms and Resource Mobilisation Commission must avoid taking dictation from the world financial institutions vis-àvis perks and privileges of government employees and should protect interest of the latter.

He said robbing the government employees of their right to annualincrement would be a great injustice and the PPP would never allow this to happen.

He pledged to bring the issue to thenotice ofthe seniorpartyleadership as well as the National Assembly speaker, who is also a representative of the PPP, and to protect the rights of the state employees.
