LAHORE: The Dolphin police rescued a deaf and mute youth who climbed up an electricity pole `to commit suicide` in Ghaziabad area here on Sunday.

A police official said the Dolphin personnel were informed about the youth climbing on the pole by some locals who called on helpline 15.

He said a Dolphin team reached the spot and two of its personnel climbed up the pole, bringing the youth down safely.

He said the task was challenging as the personnel could hardly communicate with the youth because of his impaired hearing sense.

The official said because of the condition of the youth, neither his identity nor the circumstances that forced him to think about the extreme step, could be known.

The police handed him over to the Rescue 1122 staff for initial treatment, he added.Staff Reporter
