KHUZDAR: District Education Officer (DEO) of Awaran Mohammad Saleem Shahwani was shot dead in Mashkey tehsil of Awaran district, Levies officials said on Tuesday.

Sources said that unidentified armed men barged into the house of Mr Shahwani in the Nokjo area of Mashkey tehsil early on Tuesday morning and opened fire on him.

Mr Shahwani received multiple bullet wounds. He was rushed to the hospital by security forces. But, he succumbed to his injuries before receiving any medical treatment. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained immediately.

`It seems to be an incident of targetkilling,` said a Levies official. No one had so far claimed responsibility for the attack, he added.

Levies officials said they had started investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, two people were killed in a road accident in the Winder area of district Lasbela on Tuesday.

Sources said that a motorcycle collided head-on with a car coming from opposite direction.

Police said that two men identified as Mohammad Asim and Noor Mohammad were on the motorcyle when it was hit by a speeding car on the Quetta-Karachi highway. They died on the spot.

The driver of the car managed to escape. The bodies were taken to the hospital and handed over to the victims` relatives after legal formalities.
