ISLAMABAD: A petition has been filed in Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking the recovery of an engineer who was taken away by unidentified people from his residence in Sector F-10/1 on March 14.
The petition filed by Mahera Sajid, also anengineerbyprofession, saidtherespondents police and intelligence agencies had so far failed to recover her husband Sajid Mehmood, father of three daughters. It claimed: `The circumstances under which Sajid was abducted strongly suggest that the kidnappers were state personnel.
It said the incident is a strong enforced disappearance case because of a number of reasons: it took place right in the middle of the capital city where under the Safe City Project closed circuit surveillance cameras have been installed, and that the abduction was witnessed by a large number of citizens present in the street.
The matter was reported to the police immediately but they took no steps to properly investigate it.
The petition said after more than fourmonths of Sajid`s disappearance, the family was still desperately waiting for his return or anything about his whereabouts and well-being.
It pointed out that the men who took away Sajid were clad in black uniforms inscribed with the insignia of `No Fear` which is usually worn by members of the elite police.
Some amongst the uniformed men were also wearing blacl< masks. The rest of the intruders were clad in shalwar kameez which is the characteristic of special police and intelligence agency personnel.
During the raid, the abductors examined a folder which contained important documents, including the couple`s academic certificates, and property records. After going through its contents, the intruders also seized the folder. They even took away the keys and registration book of the petitioner`s car.
According to the petition, the FIR of the incident was registered only after the intervention of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearance to whom the matter was reported by Sajid`s father, Dilawar Khan, on June 18.
It, however, said the FIR registered on July 25 was incomplete because it did not record the most obvious possible explanation of the incident: enforced disappearance.
The petition maintained that Sajid was a law-abiding citizen and entitled to the protection provided under the Constitution of Pakistan.
A single-member bench will take up the petition on August 3.
