Play highlights importance of unity

RAWALPINDI: As part of its Independence Day celebrations, the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Tuesday held a theatrical performance titled, Is Parchum Ke Sae Taley Hum Eik Hain.
The play was written and directed by Masood Khawaja, and featured Saleem Afandi, Sapna Shah, Imran Rushdi, Mr Khawaja, Shahid Bhola, Jhalak Ali, Liaqat Shah, Anjum Abbasi, Tahir Shah and Akhtar Kashmiri.
The council`s auditorium was pacl(ed with people who had come to see the play, which aimed to promote unity and national solidarity.
The play told the story of five brothers who helped a woman who wished to marry someone of her choice, while she was being pursued by an influential landlord who she did not want to marry.
The hve brothers represented the country`s four provinces and GilgitBaltistan, while the woman representedKashmir.
The director of the play also used the performance to showcase Pakistan`s folk heritage.
Mr Khawaja, who wrote the play, said the country was divided into different sections and provinces, and its unity was necessary for development. He said Kashmir was an integral part of the country, and spoke of Pakistan`s efforts to help Kashmiris get the right to choose.
RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed said the basic aim of the play was to spread the message of unity, and tell people it was time to shed all differencesforthe sake ofthe country.
He said prosperity would not be achieved without unity, faith and discipline. Mr Ahmed said the RAC would also be arranging an art exhibition and other colourful events to celebrate August 14. He said the council has invited educational institutions and young people to come to the RAC to express their feelings about Pakistan through various fine art mediums.
