QUETTA: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Quetta, headed by Judge Muhammad Ali Mobeen, has extended the remand of Baloch Yakjehti Committee chief organiser Dr Mahrang Baloch and five others for 20 days in police custody.

Dr Baloch, Beebu Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, Sabghatullah Shah Jee, Bebrag Baloch and Ghaffar Baloch, a central leader of National Party were produced before ATC after expiry of their 15-day remand. Police requested the court to extend the remand for 20 days.

Advocate Israr Jattak representing Dr Mahrang opposed the request and said there was no legal justification for it. Police told the court that three cases had been registered with the Civil Lines and Brewery Road police stations against the accused.

The ATC judge after hearing both sides accepted the plea of police and extended the remand of Dr Baloch and five others for 20 days.

Following the court proceedings, police took the accused back to the police station.

The lawyers representing all six accused said that police were using remand extensions as a tactic to harass their clients.
