KOHAT: The controller of examinations of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Kohat, has banned bringing of mobile phones to the examination centres by invigilators.

Speaking at a workshop organised for the examiners and supervisory staff here on Tuesday, Shafgat Munir said that the staff should either leave the mobile phones at home or deposit them with the superintendents before start of each paper.

He expressed the hope that the supervisory staff could help eliminate menace of cheating in examinations.

`Transparency in examination is not possible without the responsible attitude of the invigilators,` he added.

The workshop was organised for giving instructions to the staff appointed for conducting the supplementary examinations to matriculation, 2014.

The invigilators were also advised to submit their TA bills with the superintendents collectively as doing so individually caused delay in payment.

FOREIGNERS ARRESTED: The police on Tuesday arrested seven foreigners during a raid at a house in Jungle Khel area.

The police also recovered a big quantity of hashish and two unlicensed rifles and arrested the alleged owner of the house, Umer Farooq, from Chakar Mela area.

The police also apprehended seven Afghan nationals and put them in lockup for residing without valid documents.

The police registered cases in both the incidents and began further investigations.

COMPENSATION DISTRIBUTED: The district administration on Tuesday distributed Rs6.6 million compensation among heirs of the victims of Darra Adam Khel bazaar blast.

Kohat deputy commissioner Amjid Ali Khan, who is also the political agent of frontier region of Kohat, distributed cheques worth Rs300,000 among heirs of 14 victims.

Twenty-four injured tribesmen were paid Rs100,000 each.

The deputy commissioner said that money was not a substitute to the lives lost in the blast, but it was a gesture of goodwill to the victims by the government.
