Wrong flight information causes confusion

By Our Staff Reporter 2015-09-03
RAWALPINDI: The flight information display system at Benazir Bhutto International Hospital left relatives of passengers confused after it mentioned the origin of a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight as Jeddah instead of Dammam.

The flight (SV720) was expected to arrive from Dammam at 5:20pm on Tuesday.

However the flight information system displayed the origin of the flight as Jeddah.

Mohamamd Irfan, whose sister was arriving from Dammam, told Dawn: `I tried to contact the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials but could not find them. I then got in touch with my brother-in-law in Dammam who confirmed that she was travelling on SV720.` He said he was left with no choice but to wait for the flight to arrive.

However when the flight landed, it was confirmed that it had flown from Dammam.

The information on the passengers` boarding passes also mentioned that the origin of the flight was King Fahd International Airport, Dammam.

When the airport manager, Mohammad Afsar Malik, was informed of the situation, he said he would look into the matter. `This should not have happened,` he added.
