MUET hostelites hold sit-in against power outages

By Our Correspondent 2024-09-03
DADU: Students living in the hotels of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, staged a sit-in at the main gate, protesting against prolonged power outages they have been facing for over a week.

Chanting slogans against the university administration, the protesters highlighted the severe inconvenience caused by the frequent and unexplained power cuts.

Speaking to the demonstrators, the student leaders said the electricity disruptions, particularly during the night, severely impacted their rest and studies.

They said university officials concerned were not taking steps to resolve that issue. Despite receiving increased fee of the hostel accommodation, they failed to provide them facilities. They appealed to PPP chairman Bilwal Bhutto-Zardari to direct the Sindh chief minister for taking action against the concerned officials to resolve that basic issue. They threatened to continue the protest if the matter was not resolved.

They demanded immediate action to restore the electricity supply, calling for an end to what they described as unannounced loadshedding.

The situation remained tense as negotiations between the students and university officials continued.
