LAHORE: Nine men were killed and five others, including a woman, were injured in three road accidents in the city.

In the first incident, four youths were killed and two were injured in an accident involving a car and motorcyclists near a five-star hotel on the Upper Mall.

TV channels initially reported that five people were in the car whose driver tried to save a motorcyclist doing a wheelie on the road and hit an electricity pole.

The car overturned and other motorcyclists rammed into it. As a result, six people were injured, including a motorcyclist. Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to the Mayo Hospital where four of them were declared dead on arrival while two others were in critical condition.

The deceased were identified as Ahsan, 25, Abdul Majeed, 22 and Abdul Jabbar, 20, and motorcyclist Furgan, 23.

However, according to Chief Traffic Officer`s office, the accident occurred due to speeding by the car driver who had lost control over the vehicle. Racecourse police registered a case against the unidentified motorcyclist.

In another incident, four men were killed and two others were injured when their car collided with a roadside tree in Green Town early on Sunday.

Six friends were coming back to the Sabzazar areain a car after having breakfast at their friend`s house in Bahria Town when the driver lost control over the car which crossed the greenbelt, overturned and collided with the tree. All the passengers suffered critical injuries and fell unconscious. Rescue 1122 shifted them to the Jinnah Hospital where four of them were declared dead and two were said to be stable.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Rehman, 22, Junaid, 23, Waqas, 21, and Salman and the injured were identified as Nauman, 23, and Babar, 25.

In the third incident, a man was killed and his wife injured when his motorcycle hit a footpath in Gulberg on Sunday.

Police said Amjad and his wife were travelling on the motorcycle when they had an accident near the Cavalry Ground bridge.

The couple suffered critical injuries and was shifted to hospital where Amjad succumbed to his injuries and his wife was said to be critical.

According to Rescue 1122, more than 600 road traffic accidentsarereported onaverage in the province on a daily basis and in majority cases the victims are motorcyclists.
