TOBA TEK SINGH: Scores of powerloom workers staged a protest outside the Kamalia Press Club on Monday against factory owners for allegedly closing their factories without any justification.
Kamalia Labour Qaumi Movement President Malik Abdul Majeed claimed in his speech during the demonstration that the owners had closed their factories because labourers did not work during Muharram holidays.
He said if factories were not unlocked and wages not paid for the time the factories were closed, they would go on a hunger strike outside the press club.VETERINARY HOSPITAL: Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Secretary Nasim Sadiq agreed to provide required staf f from his department for the proposed veterinary hospital to be built in Chak 341-GB Nanglan.
During his visit to site of the proposed hospital, locals apprised the secretary that they had a hard time seeking medical care for their animals.
Union Council Chairman Arif Saeed informed the secretary that the hospital building would be built by villagers on their own. He requested the secretary to appoint doctors and paramedics after the building was completed.
Sadiq agreed with the UC chairman and assured him that his department wouldcooperate.
Livestock and Dairy Development Deputy Technical Secretary Dr Muhammad Usman, Faisalabad Director Malik Muhammad Nawaz and local department officials were also present on the occasion.
TRANSFORMERS STOLEN: Three electricity transformers of rural water supply schemes in Gojra were allegedly stolen on Sunday.
Villagers told police that the transformers had been installed on the Gojra branch canal to pump water from the canal to the water supply schemes.
WORKSHOP: Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) arranged an awareness workshop for students ofthe Toba sub-campus of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Monday.
The workshop covered procedures to obtain information from government departments and public institutions.
In his speech, CPDI District Coordinator Muhammad Shahid said this way several problems could be resolved by society.
During the workshop, students learnt how to write applications to heads of departments if they wanted to get information. They also signed a resolution addressed to the chief minister which said that information commissioners should be appointed in all districts as he was bound to under the right to information law.
