KARACHI: Interim Local Government Minister Muhammad Mubin Jumani on Monday said that the process of transition had been completed at the level of town municipal corporations (TMCs) in the city and work of transfer of funds to the union committees (UCs) would be completed within the next month.

During a meeting with a delegation of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), headed by its city chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, he said that he did not have any affiliation with any political party and he was determined to do everything in the interest of the people.

Speaking about the cattle market in Gadap Town, he said that earlier it was set up only for Rs160 to 210 million without inviting open bids but the amounthad now increased to Rs8-10 billion through open tender.

As for ghost employees in the local bodies institutions, he said action had been taken against them so that the funds received by the UCs and towns could be spent on public works and welfare.

Mr Jumani said that over 100 out of 350 illegal water hydrants in the city had also been completely removed by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation.

Besides, he added, action was being taken against illegal constructions in the city on a daily basis.

The minister said that orders would be issued for affixing of NOC on the under construction buildings.

Hafiz Naeem demanded from the caretaker provincial minister that the OZT shares of the UCs should be allocated separately for salaries and development works and should also be increased.
