Contractors demand release of funds for uplift works

KARACHI: The Construction Association of Pakistan and Karachi Constructors Association have demanded the release of funds for the ongoing uplift schemes andinfrastructuralrepair works in the province, saying that the ongoing works could not be completed in the scheduled time as no funds of being given for the works.
Talking to Dawn, KCA vice chairman Naeem Kazmi said that the funds for the ongoing uplift schemes and repair works were not being released in the province, making it impossible for the contractors to complete the assigned worked in the scheduled time.
He said that the CAP and KCA had jointly organised a seminar on the problems of construction industry and economic crisis in the city last week to highlight the problems faced by the construction industry due to non-availability of funds.
He said that the corruption was rampant in government departments in the name of `system` and unwarranted notices were given to the constructors by the Sindh Revenue Board and Federal Board of Revenue.
He said that CAP Chairman Engineer Ashfaq Hussain Shah in the seminar underlined the need of standard construction and repair work by the contractors and asked them not to be the part of the `system`, the corruption mechanism reporte dly prevalent in the government departments.
