Black day in Mansehra on CM`s visit today

MANSEHRA, Nov 2: The local administration has convinced the representatives of civil society, traders, lawyers and political parties not to hold demonstrations and rallies against the transfer of Senior Superintendent of Police Abdul Ghafoor Afridi during the chief minister`s visit to Mansehra today (Nov 3).

Instead, they will observe black day during the visit.

Chairman of the ActionCommittee Haroonur Rasheed told reporters on Saturday that the committee had decided to remain calm and peaceful on arrival of the chief minister instead of staging protests.

`We`ll observe black day during the visit against the transfer of SSP Abdul Ghafoor Afridi from here to Dera Ismail Khan,` he said.

The committee consists of representatives of civil society, traders, lawyers and political parties.

Mr Rasheed said members of the committee would not stage demonstrations but would boycott public meetings of the chief minister and hoistblack flags at shops and houses against the transfer of SSP.

The committee had earlier announced to protest and block Karakoram Highway during the chief minister`s visit to Mansehra.

After the announcement, the district administration and police held various meetings with the committee to convince them not to disturb peaceful environment of the district during the chief minister`s visit.

A meeting in this respect was held at the deputy commissioner`s office on Friday evening, where local Deputy Commissioner Zulfiqar Shah, Assistant Commissioner DrQasim Ali Khan, District Police Officer Khurram Rashid, DSP Mohammad Tariq, and Action Committee president Haroonur Rasheed and other members were in attendance. The deputy commissioner said since the matter of the SSP`s transfer was sub judice, the action committee should wait for the court`s decision instead of agitating.

After the meeting, the committee members met and decided not to take to streets during the chief minister`s visit.

Meanwhile, the District Legal Empowerment Committee on Saturday decided to pay the lawyers` fee in the cases of poor and de-serving litigants.

The decision was made during a meeting of the committee here.

District and Sessions Judge, Mansehra Mohammad Younas chaired the meeting, which was attended by the committee members and judges.

The committee formed a panel of lawyers to lead such cases. It urged judges and superintendent of the district jail to refer cases of poor and deserving litigants to it to ensure free dispensation of justice.

The committee also decided to create awareness of its role for the benefit of the poor and deserving litigants.
