PESHAWAR, Nov 2: Elders of Kukikhel tribe on Saturday complained of poor educational facilities in Khyber Agency and held the agency education officer (AEO) responsible for it.
Kukikhel elder and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Malik Zar Mohammad told reporters here that AEO Attiqur Rehman frequently transferred teachers to the misery of students in the region.
Flanked by elders Akhtar Badshah and Haji Gul Kukikhel, he alleged that the agency education officer was not serious about improvement of educational facilities in the area and therefore, children in large numbers were out of school.
`We have time and again drawn the attention of the agency education of ficer but to no avail as he appears to be more interested in transferring teachers from one to other schools without reason,` he said.
Mr Zar Mohammad also complained of poor health facilities at Jamrud`s major hospital and said the local residents took patients to far-away Peshawar for treatment.
He asked the relevant authorities to take notice of poor state of affairs at the hospital and allocate sufficient funds for the repairs of x-ray machines and provide other equipment and said it would help the poor people get medical treatment on their doorsteps.
The elder said it was the duty of the provincial governor and Khyber Agency political administration to ensure provision of educational and health facilities in the agency to the relief of the local residents.
