Schools reopen in Malakand division

PESHAWAR: All the government and private educational institutions in Malakand division reopened on Monday.

Malakand division commissioner had ordered the schools and colleges to be closed following the Oct 26 earthquake for safety of children besides conducting survey of the damaged buildings.

Students in large numbers attended the schools on Monday.

According to PDMA officials, at least 155 schools in KP were either fully or partially damaged by the earthquake. Tank is the worst affected district in terms of devastation caused to schools by the earthquake where 53 schools were either partially or fully damaged. Forty-five schools were damaged in Upper Dir, 34 in Lakki Marwat, 15 in Bannu and eight in Swabi district.

The survey of the losses caused to educational institutes has almost been completed and final estimates pertaining to funds requirement for their repair and reconstruction would be submitted before the government soon, according to the PDMA officials.-APP
