LANDI KOTAL: The Khyber Agency political administration has constituted six committees to assess the damage caused by the Oct 26 earthquake in Landi Kotal tehsil.

Landi Kotal assistant political agent Mohammad Nasir told reporters on Monday that an apex committee headed jointly by him and Captain Bilal of the Khyber Rifles would monitor the working of the five subordinate committees.

He said members of the subordinate committees would go to the affected localities of the tehsil and record damage caused to public and private properties by the earthquake.

He said besides political tehsildar of Landi Kotal, the committees would comprise six political moharars, officials of Khyber Rifles, public representatives, a member of the local press club and a teacher of local government school.

Mr Nasir said the committees would soon submit their reports to the apex committee after which the political administration would start providing compensation to the affected families.

He told journalists that his administration was serious about construction of a permanent building of the local press club for which funds would be acquired from the Fata secretariat on priority basis.

Meanwhile, the newly raised Khyber Traffic Squad has issued a set of traffic rules for transporters operating on the Peshawar-Torkham highway.

A pamphlet distributed among the drivers on Monday warned to keep speed limit up to 60 kilometers for light vehicles and 40 kilometers for heavy vehicles.

It urged drivers to fasten their seatbelts; a regulation being applied first time in Fata, refrain from wrong parking on the main highway, ensure proper use of indicators while taking turn or overtaking, avoid overtaking at narrow and blind turns and refrain from using tinted glass.
