Boy`s killer sentenced to death in GB

GILGIT: An anti-terrorism court here on Monday sentenced a man to death and two others to life imprisonment for killing a boy after sexually assaulting him.

It also imposed a fine of Rs300,000 each on the three convicts to be paid as compensation to the victim`s family.

The ATC judge Raja Shahbaz Khan announced the verdict after the prosecution proved the defendants guilty of committing the crime.

The boy, 8, was killed after being sexually assaulted in Gilgit in November, last year. Gilgit police had arrested three suspects, Shoeb Ahmed, Ibrarul Haq and Mohammad Usama.

Mohammad Yaseen, the victim`s father, had registered a case with the Gilgit city police on Nov 8, last year, about the missing of his son from Majini Mohallah. Two days later, the boy was found dead on the bank of the Gilgit River.

During investigation, Shoeb confessed to the crime, and disclosed that before killing the boy, he along with Ibrar and Usma, residents of the Old Polo Ground, had sexually assaulted the victim.

Shoaib was sentenced to death under section 7 (a) of the AntiTerrorism Act, 1997, and Ibrarul Haq and Mohammad Usama were given life imprisonment.
