KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Jam Mehtab Dahar on Thursday asked the director general of private institutions to ensure safety of students who travelled in school vans carrying substandard gas cylinders.

Officials in the education ministry said the minister had taken notice of the reports showing use of substandard gas cylinders in school vans.

Besides, the officials said the authorities concerned had also been asked to mon-itor the continued practice of transporters in which overloading of students in vans was generally witnessed across the province.

The officials quoting the minister said head of the section dedicated to regulate private educational institutions was also asked to direct administrations of private schools to follow safety rules in that regard.

`The transport ministry and the traf fic police should also take notice of the situation and ensure that safety rules relating to students travelling in such vans be implemented,` said the minister.
