Woman `tortured to death` by in-laws

LAHORE: A woman was allegedly tortured to death by her in-laws over family issues in the Mughalpura area here on Monday. Identified as Aneega, the woman reportedly succumbed to critical injuries at a hospital after allegedly being tortured by her in-laws.
Police rushed to the site and launched an investigation after Aneega`s father, Sheikh Shaukat, filed a complaint naming her husband, Junaid, along with his parents and sisters, as suspects.
Shaukat stated that his daughter married Junaid four years ago and had been subjected to repeated torture by him and his family over petty domestic issues.
On the day of the incident, he said neighbors alerted him that Junaid and his family were subjecting Aneega to severe torture. Shaukat rushed to his daughter`s in-laws` house and allegedly saw Junaid, his parents, and sisters beating her with rods and clubs.
Upon his arrival, Shaukat claimed that the suspects immediately moved his daughter to an undisclosed location.
Later, he was informed that she had died at a hos-pital due to severe injuries sustained from the torture.
Reports said that the husband has been taken into police custody, while his parents and sisters remain at large. The police shfited Aneega`s body to the city morgue for an autopsy.
DIES: A minor girl died while three other members of a family were injured when the roof of their house collapsed in Salmat Pura here on Monday.
Police reported that the incident occurred while the house was under construction, confirming the death of seven-year-old Saliha.
According to initial reports, Rescue 1122 received an emergency call regarding the roof collapse and dispatched a team along with ambulances.
A spokesperson for the emergency service stated that specially trained staff rescued two family members trapped under the debris. During the search operation, they recovered thebody ofthe minor girl. The injured, identified as Yasmin (40) and Uzma (41), were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. The premises of the house were handed over to the police for further investigation.
