Solar water pumps

By Our Correspondent 2014-01-04
LANDI KOTAL: Owing to excessive power loadshedding and subsequent shortage of drinking water, Refugees Affected and Hosting Areas (Raha) has initiated work on 50 solar-powered water pumps in Landi Kotal.

Work on a similar pump was started at Jalo Kallay, which will provide drinking water to at least 50 houses upon completion.

Financed by the government of Japan and implemented with the cooperation of Fata Secretariat, the Raha would complete the water schemes in Landi Kotal by February end.

Residents in Landi Kotal were hit hard by shortage of drinking water as the tube wells operated by electricity had been rendered ineffective due to loadshedding. Raha officials said that Rs2 million would be spent on these water pumps. The schemes would provide the much needed relief to the residents of Landi Kotal who would have to fetch water from long distances due to non-functioning of most of the tube wells.
