Turkish hospital to be upgraded to 500 beds

LAHORE: The Tayyip Erdogan Hospital of Muzaffargarh will be made a state-of-the-art and of international standard 500-bed hospital under an agreement between the Punjab Health Department, the Tayyip Erdogan Hospital Trust and the district government of Muzaffargarh.

According to the agreement, signed on Saturday, the Punjab government will provide land and initially Rs300 million. A medical college will also be constructed with the hospital. Later, Rs2 billion will be provided for the project under a phased programme, says a handout.

The signing ceremony of the agreement was held at the chief minister`s office, attended by Spokesman for the Punjab government Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Tayyip Erdogan Hospital Trust Chairman Mian M Ahsan, Senior Board of Revenue Member Nadeem Ashraf, P and D Chairman Irfan Elahi, Health Secretary Jawad Rafiq Malik, Local Governemnt Secretary Khalid Masood and Adviser to Trust Dr Nauman A Ibn-e-Rasa.

At the inauguration of the TayyipErdogan Hospital, Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif had announced that the 50-bed hospital would be upgraded to 500-bed international standard hospital.

Mr Qadri said best friendly relations existed between Pakistan and Turkey. He said on the instruction of Mr Sharif, the Punjab government would provide resources for the construction of the hospital.

Mr Ahsan said free treatment would be provided to the patientswithout any discrimination. He said the standard of the hospital would not be less than any other big hospital of the country.

The health secretary said 44,104 patients were examined in emergency of the Tayyip Erdogan Hospital from July 2014 to to-date while free treatment facilities were provided to 8,500 patients in outpatient departments. He said 850 cardiac patients were treated while laboratory tests of 20,891 people were conducted. He said 130 staffers, including 14 consultants and 26 medical officers, were working in the hospital.
