Shifa convocation

2016-01-04
ON Dec 30 the convocation of Shifa Medical College was held at its convention centre. The invitation cards did no mention that President Mamnoon Hussain would be the chief guest. Parents, who got passes for Rs1,000 each, were told to be seated by 10:30am, as mentioned on the card.

When I, with with my mother and elder son, also a doctor from Shifa, got there at 10:10am, the police had shut all entrances to the hall. Along with us more than 50 other parents, sisters and brothers were present to witness the ceremony.

The police officer on duty not only refused to listen, but was rude and abusive also. He called a contingent of riot police to intimidate peaceful parents, many of them mothers.

Owing to this callous attitude, I missed the MBBS degree-awarding ceremony of my son. More than fifty parents suffered the same fate. I wonder who is responsible for this injustice meted out to me and other parents: The president of Pakistan, the Shifa administration or the abusive and over-efficient Islamabad police? Where and from whom should I seek justice? Akbar Ja n Marwat Islamabad
