GUJRAT: The computerization of the land record is yet to be completed in Gujrat district despite official claims that the task has been completed across the province.

As the entire revenue estates of Gujrat city besides some rural areas of this tehsil have not been uploaded (at the online data of the land record), locals are still compelled to get exploited at the hands of the Patwaris and other land revenue staff.

The district comprised 1084 revenues estates (villages) including that of the city`s 22 revenue estates. However, as per the officials of land revenue department, the land record of some 995 revenues estates had been uploaded while data of 15 more revenue estates is being verified by the firm concerned.

The fact is the record of entire Gujrat city has not been sent for verification and no specific time schedule is given whenever the concerned officials are inquired about the issue.

One of the litigants told Dawn that he had come here for getting the ownership documents issued by the computer centre but after waiting for hours when his turn came, he was told that the city`s record was yet to be computerized which was a surprise for him.

He said he was told to contact the patwari of his area for the issuance of the `Fard` (the ownership dealing).

An official of the Gujrat Land Record Centre, however, said the process of computerization had been expedited which would be completed within the next few months. He said the time schedule for the computerization of the city`s 22 revenue estates could not be given as it was a bit complicated matter to upload the record of thickly populated urban area of the city.
