Police kill suspect in `encounter`

KASUR: B-Division police killed a suspect who was in custody in an alleged encounter in the limits of Raja Jang Police Station on Sunday.

Police alleged that the suspect, Mansha alias Manna, was wanted in eight districts of the province in 36 cases of heinous nature.

According to B-Division police, Mansha was arresteda while ago and he was being taken to the Raja Jang village to the hideout of his accomplices. When they reached near village Rao Khanwala, four criminals on motorcycles attacked the police van and managed to get Mansha released.

Police called more contingents through wireless who reached the spot as well. When they criminals were chased, they took shelter in the fields near Rohi Nullah and opened indiscriminate fire at police that was retaliated.After an exchange of firing for about one hour, the criminals escaped, leaving behind a body of one of their accomplices there who was later identified as Mansha.

Police claimed Mansha was wanted in 36 cases with Kasur, Lahore, Okara, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Nankana Sahib, Khanewal and Bahawalnagar police in robbery, murder and dacoity cases.

Police also claimed to have recovered illegal weapons from Mansha. Raja Jang also entered registered a case against the escaped alleged robbers.
