HONG KONG: Chinese leaders have set the stage for a further massive mobilisation of `revolutionary people` to carry out of the `cultural revolution,` according to New China News Agency reports monitored here today [Jan 3].
The reports spoke of a new high tide in the campaign and told how hundreds of millions all over the country were making a careful study of the recent Communist Party directive to guide their actions.
The directive, in the form of a New Year editorial in the Party newspapers, has indicated an intensification of the present struggle against power holders in the party who are accused of taking the capitalist road.
But it quoted as saying: `We will be able to break through all the obstacles and carry on the cultural revolution through to the end.
The cultural revolution campaign has spread to the nation`s huge trade union organisation as well. The `Workers` Daily`, official newspaper of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, has been closed down, an official at the newspaper`s office said in Peking today.
The Federation was abolished but many observers here took this to mean that a purge reorganisation and reform of the Federation was under way. They regarded this as more likely than a complete abolition of trade unions in China.
These latest moves coincide with a major new year editorial in the official party organ `People`s Daily` and `Red Flag` ordering the spreading of large-scale cultural revolution activities to China`s factories, mines and farms.
