Patrolling police van driver injured in attack

NAROWAL: Gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on a police patrolling van on Khadim Ali Road in Sialkot city late on Thursday and left the driver injured.

Injured policeman Muhammad Arif was shifted to the Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital.

The police said they picketed entrance and exit routes to the district for the immediate arrest of the suspects. The police also started a search operation in the area with the help of geofencing, CCTV footage and human intelligence clues.

District Police Officer Faisal Kamran inquired after the injured policeman at the hospital and ordered that the best medical facilities be provided to him.He said the police were protecting the lives and property of the citizens, and such incidents could not lower the morale of the police. He said police employees would wear bulletproof jackets during duty.

KILLED: A seventhgrade student was found shot dead in fields in the village of Gurgal, Narowal, on Friday.

The police said Subhan Khan, 13-year-old son of Tanveer Khan, went missing on Thursday, which triggered a search by his family. Later, he was found killed in the fields.

Tanveer said unknown persons shot his son dead.

The Kot Neenan police registered an FIR against unknown persons and handed over the body to heirs after a postmortem examination.

Tanveer said he was a school van driver and had no enmity with anyone.
